The Program by Suzanne Young

From Goodreads:
In Sloane’s world, true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

My review:
I decided to pick this book after I picked it for a friend to read as a challenge. I figured since I was making her read I may as well. I hope she likes it when she does read it because I sure did.( You know who you are)

Things I liked:
1) Sloan- From the start I knew she was going to be my favorite. I found her to be super strong, knows what she wants, doesn't string people along and so funny. Loved her!

2) James- I will say he was not favorite character in the beginning but once he came around I was amazed how much he changed!

3) Realm- He was another character I was not sure of. He seemed off to me(and not in a good way). I eventually understood why he was like that and could not help but love him.

4) I liked that the book was split in two sections.I wont go into detail what they are but It was wonderful to know.

Things I was not fond of:
1) Roger- This is kind of a no brainer. If you have read this you probably now why.

2) I wish some things were explained more in detail but that is really me just being super curious about somethings.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for a different type of dystopian novel. I found it rather interesting!

My rating: ♥♥♥♥

  2. I enjoyed this book as well! And I totally agree - Roger is just..ugh. If I ever saw him in real life I'd club him with a bat. And this book is so different from the many dystopians out there, which makes it sort of a breath of fresh air.

    1. I agree! I think dystopians are being so popular and seem really repetitive so the fact that this one was different made me happy!

  3. This book looks really interesting! I've heard some conflicting reviews but maybe I'll give it a shot! If most of the characters are good, that's good enough for me! Great review!
