Ten by Gretchen McNeil

This book is about 10 teens that get an invitation to go to a party at Henry Island. Some of the teens could not make it but 10 of them did. They are staying at this house called White House Rock. Then of course things go down.

Let me say that the first 50 pages I was not feeling this book at all. I even thought about not finishing it. I went ahead and I'm glad I did. This book freaked me out. It was scary but it just played with your mind. To me it felt like an episode of Criminal Minds that I was in.

I enjoyed the suspense aspect of the book. It kept me guessing through out the whole story. I never knew what was real and what was not.

One thing that really frustrated me about this book is no one called for help. No one seem to want to get off this island. Also some of the characters were holding important details back from the others. I felt like that was just dumb and not necessary.

Soul Crossed by Lisa Gail Green

This book follows Josh, a demon and Grace, an angel. Both characters die unexpectedly and lived very different lives. Joshua was a bad boy who smoke, drank, and whatever else he could do. Grace on the other hand was a good girl. She stayed in most nights and did homework and just loved being with her family. They are sent back to earth to claim the soul of Camden, who at this point can go either way. It is there job to steer him in the direction of Heaven or Hell.

What I loved(Pretty much the whole book)-
1) The way the story was told. It was told in both Josh's and Grace's perspective. Where one left off the other would continue on. I loved that aspect because I felt as though you got to know how each person felt in each situation.
2) The twist and turns in each chapter. This made me just want to keep reading regardless how tired I was because I had to know what was going on.
3) The ending. I was sad it ended but I felt as though everything was explained. I had no questions at the end but it still left it open for another book. I am excited for the next book in this series!

The things I did not like much:
1) Kiera. This girl annoyed me during the whole book. I do get why she was in the book but she just ruined alot of the things that should have just happened quicker in my opinion.
2) The chapters seemed to short to me. I wish they were longer.

The Day We Met by Rowan Coleman

*I received this book from Edelweiss for free to review.*

This story follows Claire, a woman who has the early stages of Alzheimer's. Claire and her mother have dealt with this disease before since her father had it as well. This story tells how this disease progresses and how all the family members are affected. One day Claire's husband gets a notebook that he calls the Memory Book for the whole family to write down memories of Claire.

Let me just say that this story for me was heart wrenching. I myself know no one with this disease but reading this made me prepared in away. I loved the way Rowan Coleman wrote this book. It was written in such an amazing way that kept you captured during the whole story.

What I liked:
1) The book is told in all 4 family members perspectives. Esther is only 3 so she isn't included.
2) Claire. Most of this book I felt bad for her. She just got remarried, had a daughter and not long after she started showing signs. That broke my heart. Through all that she was still an excellent mother.
3) Caitlin, the 20 year old daughter. She had so many issues throughout this story but in the end made sure she did what was best.
4) Esther. Even thought I felt bad for her since she was loosing her mother at such a young age. I still loved the innocence of her. She was very naive and didn't understand why her Mom was not able to do some things.
5) Gran. How can you not love her? The tell it like it is character that I loved reading about.
6) Finally I loved the Memory Book entries. This gave insight on how Claire was before she got Alzheimer's.

Ever Darkening by Janeal Falor

*I received this from NetGalley for review*.

This story follows Kaylyn, a 17 year old girl who has spent all her life training to kill Malryx, the evil people in the world. When she finishes the mission she has no idea what to do next. This story tested friendships, her soul, and who she views the world she lives in.

First let me say that this was my first fantasy novel. I loved that this was fast paced with alot of action, not much romance which I always appreciate in books.

What I liked:
1) Kaylyn, she was a bad ass character who I felt as though in some part that she was older than she really was. Which is not a bad thing. I enjoyed her maturity instead of being the cliche type girl who messed everything up.
2) Jorrin, he was very serious but dang did I love him. I especially loved how protective her was.
3) The world was explained very well. In the short time we were there I loved it.

Things I Wasn't Fond Of:
1) The story was to short in my opinion. I would have loved for it to continue for another 100 pages or so.

Water So Deep by Nichole Giles

*I got this free to review*.

This book follows Emma Harries a changeling. When she was an infant she was dropped off with a human to live on dry land until she turned 18. After which she would be forced to move and stay in Atlantis and be forced to marry Merrick. Currently Emma lives with her mom, dad and brother. Emma try's so desperately to not get close to many people knowing that this change will happen and she will have to leave suddenly. She becomes friends with James, a new kid at school who really likes her. Emma try's really hard not to get close to James either since she first had a bad experience with her last boyfriend and second because of her change. Then her brother goes missing while her parents are away and she has to face what is happening to her.

What I liked:
1) Emma as a character was great. She wasn't selfish at all, far from it. She really tried hard to not build any new relationships with anyone knowing that she would be leaving and could not explain why.
2) Keith. He is special needs which I haven't read to much about so that was very different but in a good way. He was so sweet but very naive.
3) James. Dang this guy was persistent. He could get annoying at times but I still felt like whatever it was he did he meant well and genuinely cared about Emma.
4) Gran. The one who knows it all and I loved her character.
5)The romance. I'm not a big fan of YA romance. I feel like most of the time it is done to fast and to me instalove is not reality. I loved how the romance was done in this story.

Things I wasn't fond of:
1) Tom. Enough said.
2) There was not much mermaid talk but that I really didnt mind because I wanted to learn all I could about Emma.
3) Merrick, not my favorite person ever. To arrogant and rude for me.

A Killing at the Creek by Nancy Allen

*I received this from Edelweiss for review.*

This story follows Elsie Arnold who ends up getting a murder case really early on when she comes back to her hometown. This was a murder case where there was a bus and then the driver was found way away from the bus. A 15 year old boy is a suspect in the case. Of course he is under age and that makes in difficult to prosecute the case. I actually liked the mystery of the book in the first half . In my opinion the story lost the suspense and mystery by the second half. Yes I do understand that towards the end it was all about the prosecution of the kid but I guess that just didn't interest me as much as the murder aspect of the story. Other than that I thought the story was written well. I did enjoy the writing style.

What I liked:
1)The character of Elsie was done very well. I liked how bad ass she was. She wasn't scared to get out in the field and go to crime scenes. I thought that was great about her.
2) I loved Ashlock alot. Thats all I wanna say about him.

The Cellar by Natasha Preston

I had never heard of this book before but seen it one day at Walmart, took a picture of the cover just so I would remember it and day later decided to pick it up. This book is about a girl named Summer who gets kidnapped by Collin while walking home. Colin at first was a likable character but as soon as the book got more into his life you could really tell how troubled he really was. This book was told in his point of view as well as Summer’s and her boyfriend Lewis. It is a very fast paced book. Some parts are a bit frightening but other than that I thought it was an overall great book. I loved this story and found myself rooting for all the characters and getting attached to them as well.

Horns by Joe Hill

OMG! I bought the ugly movie cover of this book because it was so cheap and I wanted to read it so bad. I started it the night I got it and could not put it down. This is about a guy name Ig who grows horn after a crazy night of drinking. His girlfriend is dead and he is trying to figure out what happened to her. Of course everyone thinks it is his fault. Its such a good story and I cant wait for the movie to come out!

The Night Circus

I have heard so many good things about this book. I was thinking I was going to hate this book because some of the hyped up books I tend to not enjoy as much as I hope I will. This one was not one of those books. I actually really enjoyed this book. It follows alot of different characters that end up intertwining in the circus. From the first page to the last I was hooked and was not wanting to let go of the story. I was sad when it ended. I read this on Kindle and cannot wait til I can get this book in actual book form because it looks so gorgeous.

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

I actually borrowed this book from the library and boy am I glad I did. This book follows Harper Price who is just your average southern girl. She is preparing for Homecoming where she will be Homecoming queen which she is. Then something happens when she goes to touch up her lipstick in the bathroom. She finds out she is a Paladin. She is in charge of protecting David Stark, Harper’s least favorite person.

What I liked:
1) Harper is a well rounded character and I think was written so well
2) David the guy that she was suppose to hate well we know she doesn't He was an ass in the beginning and I was like arg i do not like you. Then around halfway through I really loved him and understood his purpose.
3) The book was kind of funny in some parts and I really like that aspect of the book as well.

Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

After reading Rebel Belle I was really just wanting more Rachel Hawkins in my life so I picked this up. This follows Sophie Mercer who at the age of 12 finds out she is a witch and gets sent to Hex Hall. Hex Hall is a school for witches, faeries, vampires and warlocks. On her first day Sophie already has gained enemy’s with a group of three girls, who like her are witches. She makes friends with Archer when they get sent to detention together and of course things happen from there.

What I liked:
1) Sophie as a character is so addicting that I just loved her.
2) Every chapter has cliff hangers at the end that just wanted you to keep reading.
3) Archer I loved him because he was so sweet(this was before we found out about him)

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

Wow this book was beyond crazy for me to read. I heard the controversy surrounding this book but I still really wanted to read it. This book follows two characters Lochan and Maya who are brother and sister. They have a crappy home life where there mother is either always drunk or out with her boyfriends for days and even weeks on end. Lochan is a very shy and does not have any friends and he seems to like it that way. Maya seems to be a bit more outgoing but still not really. They are pretty much raising there 3 siblings by themselves. So I heard this book had incest in it .At first I didn’t understand where people where getting it and then it made perfect sense.

What I liked:
1) I loved the character of Lochan. He was a very likable character. He was always trying to do his best in school and also in his home life taking care of his siblings.
2) Lochan and Maya’s relationship as brother and sister was great.
I literally cried at that one part that happened(if you read it you will know). I felt so bad for both of the characters.

When Smiles Fade

Wow there is so many things I have to say about this book. *First I got this from Netgalley for review*.  This book has me in such a weird emotional state after reading it. I cannot believe what took place in this book.

This book follows a family of 4. There is Valerie(Mom), Pepper(Dad), Emma(Oldest Girl), and Gracie(Youngest Girl). Pepper is very abusive towards his whole family since he is a drunk. This story really grabs you from the beginning but not in the way you think. I automatically felt bad for the two girls. Not so much the mother because she just let everything happen and that made me very mad. So this follows the family and all the things that go on in the two girls lives. I found the descriptions in this book to be very very good. Did I want to read some of this stuff?? No. I caught myself being in shock most of the time and felt like I really could not finish this book. After awhile though I just wanted to know what would happen to this family, especially the two girls.

What I liked:
1) Emma was written so well. She endured so much at the hands of her father is was ridiculous. She took a lot because she didn’t want her sister to have those things done to her. I felt so bad for her.
2) The way this whole story was written. You got to see them when they were little then as the girls grew up and what happened then.
3) Mrs. Tisdale was great. God I loved this character. She was a sweet sweet lady but  I didn’t understand why she didn’t try to help the girls more.

What I did not like:
1) The obvious would be Pepper.
2) Valerie. Dang did I dislike her. She was a bad mother. How can someone allow some of the things that went on? I just hated her from the get go. When you daughter is pleading for help and you do nothing?? Arg, dislike this woman.
Overall I think this book is a good read. Definitely keeps you on your toes. Be prepared to flinch, cry and just scream sometimes in this book.
